Get To Know Pastor Emeritus John L. Mayshack

Pastor Emeritus John Lewis Mayshack, Sr. was the fourteenth pastor of Tabernacle Baptist Church, and graduated from Bishop College in Dallas, Texas with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Additionally Pastor Emeritus Mayshack attended Andover Newton Theological School in Newton Center, Massachusetts, and earned a Master of Divinity Degree as a Rockefeller Honor Student. Honors that were accorded him included that of recipient of the Rockefeller Scholarship for Seminary and that of being the first black Student Lecturer for the Massachusetts Laymen Society. 
 
His outstanding leadership skills and erudition continued into his productive community contributions and can be attested to through a perusal of his accomplishments. He was also the first black to be elected to the Civil Service Commission in Waco, Texas. 
 
Acquiescing to the will of God, his pastoral experiences include that of pastor of The Metropolitan Baptist Church in Dorchester, Massachusetts, from 1964-1968; pastor of the Bethesda Baptist Church in Marshall, Texas, from 1968-1971; pastor of New Hope Baptist Church in Waco, Texas, where his preaching prowess was exhibited from 1971-1985 and pastor of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma from 1985-2008.
 
Pastor Emeritus Mayshack has sterling and impressive affiliations through religious, civic, professional and social organizations. He is a former member of the Missionary Baptist General Convention of Texas, former Dean of the Union Baptist District Congress in Waco, Texas, the past president of the Minister’s Union of Marshall, Texas, and of the Texas Waco Bishop College Club from 1972-1981. He is a charter member of the Oklahoma Alliance Against Drugs, past president of the School Board of Waco Independent School District, and past member of the Texas Association of School Boards. 
 
Pastor Emeritus Mayshack is a member of The National Baptist Convention, U.S.A., Inc., where he served as an instructor of Youth Evangelism for ten years in The National Baptist Congress of Christian Education. Pastor Emeritus Mayshack served as secretary of The Oklahoma State Pastors’ Conference and a member of The Governor’s Commission for Martin Luther King, Jr.
 
Pastor Mayshack has authored three books. Two of the books entitled 175 Sermon Outlines and 165 Dynamic Sermon Outlines were published by Baker Bookhouse. 
 
Pastor Emeritus John Lewis Mayshack, Sr., is married to Carla Malone Mayshack and is the proud father of two children, John Mayshack, Jr., and James Mayshack.
